We've been really busy in second grade, this is a well deserved break! We've been learning about landforms, typing up our magazine article, measuring (pretty much) everything in sight for math, and learning about poetry!
Here's some important information:
1. No School Friday, April 3rd-Sunday, April 12th for Spring Break. Have a safe break everyone!
2. Save the date! Our musical is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, May 6th!
3. Special Kid when we get back is Finn!
4. We are still in need of some kleenex, if you have any to donate. Thank you!
We learned about landforms in social studies earlier this month. We extended our learning with a week long project (idea from this blog)!
First we learned about 7 landforms and worked together to make posters (canyon, valley, island, peninsula, mountain, plateau, and coast). They're hanging in our classroom, if you ever want to see them!

Then, we used salt dough to make our own continents. Each continent had to have at least three different landforms. The continents were completely made up but they had to be in a real ocean.
We let the dough dry for a few days and then made maps of them and painted them! If you want to make the salt dough at home here's the recipe: 2 cups of flour 1 cup salt 1 cup warm water Mix and knead the ingredients together for 5 minutes or until it reaches a dough consistency. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for up to two weeks. We left ours out for 2 days to dry, but you can also bake it to allow the dough to harden. |
We also had our Writing Celebration this week! We've been writing informational magazine articles about our "personal expertise". We talked about the different features and structures of informational writing.
We used our computer lab to type up our articles. We learned TONS of new technology skills such as saving to a flash drive, inserting a text box and changing it's size, font size, inserting a photo, and more! They turned out awesome!
