We've been observing these baby eagles for the last week during snack time. You can access the live feed by clicking here. They were born about a month ago. We've been taking notes on how they're changing! This goes right along with our life cycles unit in science!
I love spring because it brings a variety of activities into our room! We've been really busy working on a variety of projects, including our "Magazine Article" which we've been typing up in the computer lab. We also planted our seeds and have been monitoring them closely! We've been observing these baby eagles for the last week during snack time. You can access the live feed by clicking here. They were born about a month ago. We've been taking notes on how they're changing! This goes right along with our life cycles unit in science! Last Thursday we hosted the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum for a sound workshop. It was a great way to remind ourselves of our sound unit from a few weeks back. Here are a few pictures I snapped toward the end. We also made some "Arrays of Sunshine" to go with the warm weather! We turned each ray into an array and them used repeated addition. They're shining bright in our windows!

On Tuesday we had a group of neuroscience graduate students from UofM came to our classroom to promote Brain Awareness Week! They brought tons of knowledge to our room and helped us really think about our brain. Most importantly, we talked about why it's so important to keep our brain safe by wearing a helmet! Today we went to see a performance at Hill. I didn't get a chance to snap any pictures except this one. We were riding on the bus when I discovered that I'd been given multiple set of bunny ears ("Mrs. Brennan, turn around!"). The life of a teacher is never dull!
We have a very busy and exciting week ahead of us in second grade!
Tuesday: Brain Awareness Guest Speakers Wednesday: Field Trip to see Hill Orchestra (going by bus) Thursday: Sound Workshop at Angell from The Hands on Museum Plus, we'll begin typing our magazine articles that we've been working on in writing AND starting a new math unit! Busy, busy, busy! Here are a few notes: 1. Report cards come home on Tuesday, March 17th. 2. We are in need of more tissues and EXPO markers (preferably a variety of colors). Thank you for your donations, we very much appreciate them! 3. Happy birthday this week to Charlie! 4. Special Kid is Stone! 5. We're working on writing magazine articles about our "Personal Expertise". Students will be producing these articles on the computers. They will include pictures. Some of the students wrote about a topic that they have pictures of from home (pets, cars, etc.). If your child wants to include a personal picture for their magazine article than please email me the picture. We only need one. Otherwise, we'll find a picture through the internet. Have a great weekend! Today we had some volunteers from the Society of Women Engineers from UofM come in to explore magnets with us! Students had to use straws, tape, Life Savers, and a toothpick box to construct their own car. They used magnets to push or pull the cars. It was wonderful to see how each group constructed their cars differently! Late last week we dissected seeds. We were looking for the seed coat, stored food, and embryo. I snapped these pictures from recess this week. The warmer weather has us buzzing with excitement, it's been beautiful outside!
On Friday for Social Studies, Mrs. Halabu had students use a map of Ann Arbor to practice their mapping skills! They worked in partners to find the grid locations of parks, homes, etc. They also used the legend to locate regional areas within our city!
