2. On March 11th (Friday), we'll be walking to the Museum of Natural History for a "Wild Weather" demonstration. We need 2 more parents to walk with us and chaperone a group. We'll be leaving a little before 10 and return a little after 12. Please let me know, via email, if you're available to chaperone this field trip.

6. CALLING ALL MAPS! We're starting our map unit this week. If you have any maps at home that you're willing to send in, we'd love to see them! There are so many different kinds of maps, and so many different places in the world. We'd love to get a collection of as many different maps as we can! After we take a look at your map, we'll send it home. Thank you!

This Week:
- Phonics- review of short vowel sounds, long i patterns -igh and -y (final sound)
- Writing- we've starting our research project! Student chose a topic and research question last week. This week we'll be researching our topic.
- Math- this week we'll be extending our understanding of place value (understanding that 78 is made of up 70 + 8) and equivalence.
- Social Studies-we're starting our map unit. In this unit we'll think about different types of maps, parts of a map (symbol, key, compass rose, etc), and how to read a map.
How To Writing
Last Wednesday we had our writer's celebration! This time, we went to Mrs. Halabu's classroom and read our work to them.

- sequencing directions (students had to stretch their directions to more than just 2 or 3 steps...this type of sequencing directly relates to reading comprehension)
- adding details that give specific information about how to do something
- including a introduction and giving our writing a sense of closure
- editing and revising our writing
- using a word list (we call ours an "office") to spell commonly used words
