1. No SCHOOL on Monday! Please take a moment on this day to have a conversation about our role in equality in America. We spent some time discussing equality in our class, but my impact won't be as meaningful as a conversation with you! We talked about our dreams to change the world or our community. We also talked about taking action when we have a dream, and how one person can make a difference. Sometimes we forget to talk about these complicated topics, or we give a quick response to student questions. However, students are starting to ask more complex questions about the topic and this is a great time to start (or continue) the conversation!

2. We're in need of more glue sticks! We fly through them with all the cutting and pasting we do in first grade. If you're able to donate some, we'd GREATLY appreciate it!
3. Scholastic book order are due TOMORROW (1/19).
4. It's (finally) starting to feel like January in Michigan, cold weather is here! A few notes to keep in mind as we transfer our cold weather clothes to-and-from school:
- Please initial ALL pieces of clothing. The best spot in on the tag. I've picked up dozens of hats, gloves, and coats in the hallway. If there are no initials on them, and no one claims them, I take them to the lost and found (located outside the office in the purple bins).
- IF you're sending students to school in winter boots, please be sure to also send a pair of regular shoes for them to change into. That way we don't drag water and mud into the classroom. Many students choose to keep the extra pair of shoes at school during the season, that way they don't need to carry them back and forth.
- It helps to pack an extra pair of socks in backpacks, just in case feet get wet out at recess.
5. Talent show is February 21st.
6. Special Kid is Ahmed!
Students sang three songs at our Martin Luther King Jr. assembly, they were all lovely! I have a very talented class, they're a musical group! Here's a quick video I took of one of the songs, "What Can One Little Person Do?" They also sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth", a song my mother would often hum to us as children. It was just beautiful to hear students singing this. Sorry for the strange angle, I wasn't able to move toward the front for the video.
