1. Due to some scheduling conflicts, our field trip to the Farmer's Market has been moved to Wednesday, October 14th. We'd still like to have two more parents who can join us. We'll be taking the bus (adults are responsible for their own bus fare). We'll be leaving shortly after 9 am and returning shortly before 12 pm.
We've received a few dollars to use to buy some ingredients for a class salad (we'll make it after our trip). If you'd like to contribute, feel free to send in a few dollars to me. We'll pool this money together to use it for our salad.
2. This Wednesday is Count Day so please try to make sure your child is at school. This helps the school get funding from the state.
3. If you did not have a chance to sign up for conferences, please email me. Conference dates are Tuesday, Oct. 20th, Monday, Oct. 26th, and Thursday, Nov. 5th after school.

4. You should have received a homework packet on Friday. Homework comes home on Friday and is due the following Thursday. Please encourage your child to do this work independently and help them when necessary, especially with checking their work. Your child should also be reading every day. One page this week encourages students to use a number grid (pictured to the right). You can use this picture to help as needed. |
Every month we think about a different virtue to help build our classroom community. This month's virtue is compassion!
We started by reading a story, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. We talked about how Molly Lou was always patient with others and how she always treating her classmates politely. Then, we got into groups to practice being compassionate when working together. Our fingers got a little gooey, but we had a great time. Here's what we did:

We had a great discussion about using kind words as a way to show compassion. I'm looking forward to thinking more about this as we go further into October!
