I told you a few weeks ago about the mealworms we've had in our class. If you missed it, you can read about it here.
Well. We've waited, and watched, and waited, and really watched. Finally, our beetles have emerged!
Well. We've waited, and watched, and waited, and really watched. Finally, our beetles have emerged!
After the mealworm stage, we watched our insects turn into pupas. We knew they were alive inside because every once in a while they'd wiggle back and forth!
About 10 days later, our first beetle came out of its pupa skin. At first, they were light in color. Over time, the beetles have become a very dark brown.
We used our scientific eyes to observe, record, and make predictions about the beetle. We also read about metamorphosis and learned details about the specific stages of the life cycle. Soon, we'll need to let them go. Hopefully, with the warmer weather, some of them will be able to finish out their life cycle!
