We've had a wonderful first week of school. I can't help but leave Angell with a smile on my face because my students are truly fantastic people! Makes my job awesome!
Here are some important pieces of information for the upcoming week:
1. Homework: I sent home a homework packet that will be due next Friday, September 12th. For the most part, homework will be Friday-Friday. For this week, most of the concepts in homework should be review from first grade. The goal is to have your child do their homework independently and for you to simply have to check it! In the future, we'll be adding some different components to homework.
2. Curriculum Night is this Tuesday. Be sure to pop in and say hello!
3. Behavior Chart. Now that we've been in second grade for a week, it's important for you to know about our class behavior chart. I'm not one to depend on changing student colors and usually I'll opt to have private conversation with a student or focus on something positive. After all, I want everyone in our class to feel successful both academically and socially! That being said, we do have a behavior chart in case my reminders aren't helping students make a better choice.
Students all start on green.
If a student makes a bad choice, I'll give them a reminder or redirection.
If a student continues to make that bad choice, I'll give them a warning.
If student continues, they change their color to yellow. This is intended to be a clear indicator that they need to change their choice.
If the student continues, they will change their color to red. This is when I would most likely contact you.
If a student is going above and beyond and I just can't stop noticing what a wonderful student they are, they change their color to blue. This is an honor in our classroom. Stone changed his color to blue today, so if you see him make sure you congratulate him!
4. Volunteers. If you're interested in helping out at school or in our classroom, please let me know! Our library time is Friday from 9:00-10:00 and I'm sure our librarian could use a few extra hands during that time. I could also use some help with items such as adding books to my library, working with students during math workshop on Tuesday/Thursday, etc. I'd love to hear from you if you want to come in! My email is [email protected].
3. Book boxes are due back Monday.
4. Scholastic book orders came home today and are due by September 26th (if you chose to order). Online orders are the preferred method but I can also take check orders.
That's all for now. Have a great weekend!
